This European Commission report promotes a comprehensive and action-oriented initiative to improve the operating environment for SMEs by fostering a dual transition towards a sustainable and digital economy. The strategy proposes a set of actions based on three pillars: 1) capacity building and support for the transition towards sustainability and digitization 2) reducing the regulatory burden and improving market access 3) improving access to finance. To this end, the Commission will update the European Business Network with dedicated sustainability advisers, will also expand digital innovation centers in all regions of Europe to empower SMEs to integrate digital innovations and will open up opportunities for volunteering and training in digital technologies.
